Romania is located in the south-eastern part of Central Europe.
It has 22 million inhabitants and covers an area of 238 391 km².
The Romanian landscape consists of equal parts mountains (the Carpathian mountains run through Romania), plains and hill terrain.

Romania borders to Hungary, Serbia, Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria.
The Danube river runs along the southern border, while the Black Sea lays of the eastern coast.

The capital of Romania is Bucharest.
Other major cities are Lasi, Constanta, Timisoara, Cluj Napoca, Brasov, Craiova, Galati, Ploiesti and Braila.
Romania is divided into 42 counties (judete) and 8 development regions.

Romania has a continetal climate, with the average percipitation ranging from 500 mm on the plains, to 1 200 mm in the mountains.

Agriculture takes up about 15 mio hectares, of which about 60% is cultivated.
Pastures and grazing grounds make up the majority of the remainder.

The Romanian currency is the leu (currency code: RON).
